Four Brewers | Craft Beer and Homebrew Podcast

Season 4, Episode 26 – This week on this show, Genesee brews and RateBeer talk.

Genesee Brewing is probably a brewery you’ve seen many times on shelves, but simply overlooked. It happens. It’s the same old story: the beer is always there, but you’re always hunting for the newest whalez and porch bombs. This week on the show, we’re drinking beers inspired by Matt and Jason’s show on the Four Brewers YouTube channel, Cheap Beer Corner.

It should also be mentioned that we spend a majority of the show this week talking about the RateBeeer.com buyout. It’s a sensitive topic for sure, and quite unique among the normal brewery acquisition news releases we are all accustomed to reading.

Season 4, Episode 25 – This week, we’re geeking out on homebrewing and drinking asparagus IPA…NO JOKE.

It’s been a while since we’ve done a legitimately hardcore homebrew episode on the podcast and this week, we’re going back to our roots with the help of Daniel Fernandez from Beancurdturtle Brewing, LLC.

Beancurdturtle Brewing BeersBeancurdturtle Brewing Beers

You may have gathered from the title of this episode that we’re drinking actual IPA made with asparagus–yes, asparagus. Along with Daniel’s asparagus beer, we’re drinking four other really tasty brews that he crafted as a homebrewer, as well as beers that he designed for other craft breweries around the world. We also talk about Daniel’s history in craft beer and chat about beer styles and professional brewers that he has worked with over the years.

Many thanks to Daniel for coming down to the studio and hanging out with us. Learn more about Daniel and his beer at Beancurdturtle.com.

Season 4, Episode 24 – This week, we’re exploring the newest Sierra Nevada Collaboration twelve pack.

It’s that special time of year when Sierra Nevada Brewing Company calls forth the best brewers in the land to brew a mixed twelve pack of collaboration beers.

This week, we’re drinking those beers.

Beer Camp Across The World Twelve PackBeer Camp Across The World Twelve Pack

If you’ve been listening to Four Brewers for a while, you’ll know that we have a love/hate relationship when it comes to Sierra Nevada beers. This doesn’t mean we think they brew bad beer, but they tend miss the mark more than a brewery of their stature should. The Beer Camp mixed packs have always been a sore spot with us, even though our own Greg Nagel attended Beer Camp in 2013! We love Sierra Nevada! What we’re doing is simply giving valid criticism because we know Sierra Nevada can innovate and evolve without compromising flavor and quality.

This year’s Beer Camp Across The World mixed twelve-pack hit shelves in the Southern California market last week. Keeping with tradition, we picked it up, hoping this year’s beers wouldn’t be a complete dumpster fire (ok, hyperbole–past beers in the mixed pack weren’t really that bad, but we were usually really disappointed), and guess what? This year’s variety pack is pretty damn good! How rad is that?!

We here at Four Brewers are happy to announce that we highly recommend the 2017 Beer Camp Across The World variety/mixed/collaboration twelve pack. Want to know which beers stood out to us the most? Listen to this week’s episode!

Season 4, Episode 23 – This week, Jason’s cup runeth over…

Sometimes, you just need to clear out the cellar and make room for more whalez. This week, Jason does just that.

Jason's Cleaning Out the ClosetJason’s Cleaning Out the Closet

One of the best things about having a beer cellar is when you need to clear it out to make room for more new and exciting craft beers. More often than not, the beers that are selected for clearing are usually ready for drinking, but sometimes, they’re past their prime, or just plain awful. Again, it’s fun, right?! Right!

Season 4, Episode 22 – This week we’re drinking beers from California’s Antelope Valley region.

This week, we’re finishing up the bombastic box of brew from 4B listener and super-fan, Phil Lorenzini.

Beers from Lucky Luke, Transplants, and Brävery.Beers from Lucky Luke, Transplants, and Brävery.

Every beer and brewery on the show this week are new to the podcast, all making their first official appearance on the show this week. But, while they’re new to us, they are all fairly established Los Angeles County breweries. We’ve said this before, but it’s a great problem to have when there is so much local craft beer to choose from that it takes so long to get to all of them.

Cheers again to Phil for the beers and continued support of the podcast. You’re still the man now, dawg!

Season 4, Episode 21 – It’s that wonderful time of the year where we dedicate an entire episode to Almanac Beer Co.

Four Brewers have been huge fans of Almanac Beer Co, even before the podcast was a thing! Matt and John were first introduced to Almanac’s beers in the New Brew Thursday era by way of NBT super-fan Mike Sardina. Since then, we’ve only grown to love Almanac more and more.

Almanac Beer CoAlmanac Beer Co

John was pestering Jesse Friedman of Almanac Beer Co about possibly getting some of the newer releases from the brewery and Jesse, as always, happily obliged. With some new bottle art, a second round of anniversary Grand Cru, and a silver medal-winning Almanac beer from the Great American Beer Festival, we’re diving in head-first without a life preserver!

Does something about this week’s episode seem oddly familiar? Well, that’s because The Alchemist is on the show yet again! We’re revisiting Focal Banger and Heady Topper since Matt and Greg were absent when we had it on the show the first time.

Season 4, Episode 19 – Every beer on the show this week came from a can, and boy are they good.

Canned IPA has really taken off here in southern California. One could reasonably say that nearly every brewery has hopped on the Hazy IPA train (pun intended), which in our opinion, is great. This week, we’ve got a mix of New England-inspired IPA, some IPA from The Bruery (yes, you read that correctly), and some tart fruit whalez from Bottle Logic Brewingand Keymaster Games.

Beers from Offshoot Beer Co, The Alchemist, and Bottle Logic BrewingBeers from Offshoot Beer Co, The Alchemist, and Bottle Logic Brewing

I (John) think I speak for the rest of the guys when I say that IPA from The Bruery has been a long time coming. They’ve resisted the SoCal IPA craze since their opening in 2008, yet produced one of the best India Pale Lagers in the area, Humulus Lager, which was only on draft at the tasting room in Placentia, California. It’s like they were teasing their customers with this beer. Humulus Lager was proof that The Bruery could brew a great IPA, er, IPL, while maintaining their Belgian inspired beer credibility. Well, The Bruery has finally brewed IPA, but they couldn’t brew it under the name of The Bruery (they said they’d NEVER brew an IPA…), so they made a new brand just for these styles of beer and named it Offshoot Beer Co..

Along with Offshoot Brewing Co. beers, we’re drinking some freshies from Bottle Logic Brewing, as well as a beer from The Alchemist by way of 4B listener Robert Perry.
