Four Brewers | Craft Beer and Homebrew Podcast

Season 4, Episode 17 – This week, we’re drinking some killer IPA with our friend, Joe Senigaglia from Jow’s Arcade.

This week on the show, we’re drinking some really, really special beers sent to us from 4B listeners Robert Perry and Trevor Gwillim. We’re also joined by social guest and YouTuber, Joe Senigaglia from Jow’s Arcade.

This week, we’re drinking some beers that are really special to us west coast duders. We recently put out the call to get a special collaboration beer between the hip hop group Run The Jewels, Interior Spirits and Ales, and Burial Beer Co named Stay G-O-L-D, and wouldn’t you know it, Trevor Gwillim came through and hooked it up. How rad is that? In addition, long-time 4B listener Robert Perry hooked us up with some of Vermont’s finest IPA, including Heady Topper, Focal Banger, and Sip of Sunshine. Oh boy!

Check out Joe’s YouTube channel. He’s been at the YouTube game for a while now, and is one of our favorite BeerTubers and now, favorite guests on the show.

Big thanks to Robert and Trevor for the IPA hookups. We literally couldn’t do this show without the support of our listeners, and we thank you all!

Season 4, Episode 16 – This week, some tasty lager from Sudwerk, and hoppy IPA from El Segundo.

Sudwerk and El Segundo Brewing are two breweries that have found a special, warm place in our collective 4B hearts. On today’s episode, we’re featuring beers from both breweries, ranging from gose, to doppelbock, to IPA. Variety is the spice of life, after all..

El Segundo and Sudwerk BeersEl Segundo and Sudwerk Beers

We kick off the show this week with a journey into the 4B mailbag while sampling some hand-delivered brews from Davis, California’s Sudwerk Brewing Co, and answer listener questions about Belgian beer, the Craft Brewers Conference, and Micheladas, of all things.

We wrap up the episode with an experiment of sorts with El Segundo Brewing Company‘s first three IPAs in their Bursted Hop series of beers, all of which focus on one type of hop that was added exclusively at the end of the boil in the brewing process, rather than at two or three different stages.

Big thanks as always to the fine folks at Sudwerk for hooking us up, yet again. We’ve got nothin’ but love for yas.

Season 4, Episode 15 – This week on the show, beers from listener Alex Greene out of New Jersey.

Getting beer from 4B listeners is the best. It’s difficult for us to get our hands on craft brews from the many breweries that dot the American landscape, so when listeners take the time to hook us up, we appreciate it.

This week on the show, we’re drinking beers from 4B listener Alex Greene. We mentioned on a previous episode that we’d like to try some more beers out of New Jersey, and so Alex hooked it up. Who knew that strawberry IPA was being made in NJ? We sure didn’t, and you know what…it’s delicious!

Thanks again, Alex!

4B Special – John sat down with Andy Black to talk about his new brewery, Yorkshire Square Brewery.

Yorkshire Square Brewery will soon be Torrance, California’s newest craft brewery when their soft opening happens on April 19. John got the opportunity to sit down with Andy Black, Yorkshire Square Brewery’s Head Brewer, to talk about their place in the Los Angeles beer scene, their vision as a brewery, and his passion and love for cask ale.

Yorkshire Square BreweryYorkshire Square Brewery

We can’t thank the crew at Yorkshire Square Brewery for having us down to check out their new digs. There were only three beers on tap at the time of this recording, but needless to say, they were all so delicious. John also got to try a hoppy brown ale and a double dry hopped golden ale fresh from the tanks, and of course they were the bomb (sans porch).

Season 4, Episode 14 – This week, cans of Fieldwork and HenHouse beers from 4B listener, Kevin Foote.

We have some of the best listeners on the internet. Really, we do! They’re constantly sending us beers that we would normally not get to drink, and today’s episode features beers sent to us by 4B listener Kevin Foote. Kevin hails from the Bay Area of California, so he thought we’d be interested in drinking some beer from his neck of the woods.

Fieldwork and HenHouse CansFieldwork and HenHouse Cans

Today on the show, we’re drinking beers from Fieldwork Brewing Company and HenHouse Brewing Company. A majority of the beers on the show this week are IPA, with the exception of a sour and maple brown ale. Turns out, there’s some really delicious beer coming out of the Sacramento area!

Big thanks to Kevin for taking the time to send us some really excellent brews! Cheers, duder!

4B Special – Nagel interviews Evan and Brian from Green Cheek Beer Company!

Our own Greg Nagel enjoys a pint with Evan and Brian from one of Orange County’s newest breweries, Green Cheek Beer Company!

Evan Price of Green Cheek Beer CompanyEvan Price of Green Cheek Beer Company

When Noble Ale Works CEO Brian Rauso left his position months after nabbing the highest honors in the brewing world, World Beer Cup Champion Brewery and Brewmaster, Small Brewing Company, a few eyebrows were raised. When Noble’s head brewer, Evan Price announced his departure early 2017, it didn’t take long for industry people to put two and two together.

Nagel got a chance to grab an exclusive interview with the Evan and Brian to discuss their next project, which was recorded at downtown Santa Ana’s Mission Bar over a game of pool and many Beachwood Citraholics. Give it a listen!

Season 4, Episode 13 – This week, most of the Speedway Stouts…

One Is Not Like the OthersThe Speedway of Love

Knew you’d be a vision in white
How’d you get your pants so tight?
Don’t know what you’re doin’
But you must be livin’ right, yeah

Oh, we got some places to see
I brought all the maps with me
So jump right in, it ain’t no sin
Take a ride in my machine

City traffic movin’ way too slow
Drop the pedal and go, go, go

We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
Wind’s against our backs
We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
In my pink Cadillac
We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
Wind’s against our back
Ain’t we ridin’ on the speedway of love
In my pink Cadillac?

Never you mind the exit signs
We got lots of time
We can’t quit ’til we get
To the other side, ide, ide

With the radio playin’ our song
We keep rollin’ along
Who knows how far our car can get
Before you think your love slowin’ on down

City traffic’s movin’ way too slow
Drop the pedal and go, go come on now, go

We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
Wind’s against our backs
We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
In my pink Cadillac
We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
Wind’s against our back
Ain’t we ridin’ on the speedway of love
In my pink Cadillac? Oh yeah

Here we go, one more time mmm
With the wind and your fingers in my hair
Kind of think we’re going for an extended throw down
So drop the top baby
And let’s cruise on into this better than ever street

City traffic’s movin’ way too slow
Drop the pedal and go, go, come on baby, go, do it for me now

We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
Wind’s against our back
We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
In my pink Cadillac
We goin’ ridin’ on the speedway of love
Wind’s against my back
Ain’t we ridin’ on the speedway of love
In my pink Cadillac?

What I want you to do baby
Get over to the left lane
And let’s merge with peace, oh yeah
Take the love that’s sent ya
And then in the right time
Go on over in love and satisfaction and joy, well
Ain’t we riding babe, ain’t we cruising down
Free, free, sweet
Go on after, awh let’s be good to each other street
Well, see that little landmark over there
A whole lot of kisses and sweet stuff
We’ll be just about, awh, awh, awh
And satisfaction road yeah, satisfaction yeah ooo ahhh

Season 4, Episode 12 – This week on the show, ch-ch-ch-cherry beers! Freak out with your Kriek out…

This week on the show, we have a plethora of potentially pink beer, so much so that we may need a paddle to get out of this cherry kriek we’ve found ourselves in. If only we had a corner to drink them all in… Luckily, we are joined again by Natalie DeNicholas, who coincidentally is the host of our new YouTube show called, Pink Beer Corner! It’s all coming up pink, isn’t it?

Cherry BeersCherry Beers

Matt was inspired to bring all the cherry things for this week’s show based off of a homebrew he made that in the end, he didn’t think turned out so well. In an effort to save a beer that was destined to inevitably end up in a dump bucket shared between five homebrewers on this podcast, he added bugs (bacteria bugs, that is) and cherries. Turns out, he still wasn’t a fan (and neither were the rest of us). Swiftly moving on, we ventured to find beers that didn’t have that well-known cough syrup flavor that so many people notice with cherry beers.

As per usual, our session concludes with us in a hot mess of singing, impersonations, waxing poetic about nonsense, and having no clear winner on which cherry beer rainiers supreme. Get it? It’s a cherry joke.

Season 4, Episode 11 – This week, John returns from his recent trip to Portland, Oregon, and brings beers from The Commons and Baerlic with him.

John recently went on vacation with his girlfriend (Yvonne) of 13 years to the wonderful beer city of Portland, Oregon, and he brought back back eight beers from two breweries to share on the podcast. Turns out, there are A LOT of craft breweries in Portland, Oregon, and the hype you’ve heard is totally real. It’s way rad! John couldn’t bring #allthebeers back, so this week we’re focusing on two breweries that John was really impressed with.

The Commons BrewryThe Commons Brewry

First up is The Commons Brewery. The Commons is a GABF award-winning brewery that is making beers to please both the beer-geekiest hophead and the discerning Belgian-style beer drinker. After visiting the brewery, John could reasonably say that most of the brews from The Commons are totally on point and straight up delicious. You MUST stop by The Commons Brewery if you find yourself in Portland.

Beers From Berlin Brewing[/caption]Beers From Berlin Brewing

Next up is a brewery that is new to the 4B crew, Baerlic Brewing Company. This was a brewery that John and Yvonne kind of stumbled upon while wandering around downtown Portland. Turns out, they make really good brew that’s a bit outside of the norm for craft beer.

If you find yourself in Portland, Oregon and you’re looking for some excellent craft beer, rest assured that you’ll definitely be able to stumble into a random brewery (or 20) and drink something awesome.

Keep it up, Portland.

[Side note, the new album (Spotify) from The Menzingers was released while John was vacationing in PDX, so you should totally check it out because it’s awesome.]

Season 4, Episode 10 – This week, ultra-fresh canned beers from Bottle Logic Brewing, and more 4B listener submitted beers!

Firkfest 2017 is nearly upon us! What is Firkfest, you ask? It’s our very own Greg Nagel‘s annual cask ale festival in Anaheim, California.
Get your tickets at Firkfest.com!

Greg couldn’t join us for Session 52 of Four Brewers, but worry not, for Natalie DeNicholas is here to do some heavy lifting and help us drink some super-fresh beers from Bottle Logic Brewing, as well as great selection of beers from 4B listener, Sam Szapucki!

The first two beers on this week’s episode are a first for Orange County’s Bottle Logic Brewing, Up Up IPA and 714 Blonde Ale in CANS! That’s right! Bottle Logic boarded that massive aluminum train and started releasing their beer in cans this weekend! The highly sought after New England-style Up Up IPA sold out online this past Friday in mere minutes. Luckily for us, we were able to get our hands on some in a nick of time before recording Session 52 on Saturday, March 4th.

Along with Up Up, we’re drinking another first for Bottle Logic, their (714) Blonde Ale in cans! This beer is usually always on tap at Bottle Logic’s tasting room, but the cans will only be available for purchase outside of the brewery within their distribution area. So, keep your eyes open!

We end the show with five beers given to us by loyal Four Brewers listener and Patreon Supporter Sam Szapucki (thanks, Sam!) from Occidental Brewing Co.Melvin BrewingpFriem Family BreweryBreakside Brewing, and 4B favorite, Fort George Brewery
